What to expect
The Community Center is open to the public from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
Senior Program hours run from 9am to 3pm.
Participants must register in advance for programs, activities and use of the Senior Lounge.
Free programs require an active membership. Programs and activities are for West Sacramento seniors age 50 and older. Participants can register anytime online or in-person at the Community Center during program hours.

Active Aging Activities - for 50 and up. Register today!
Free for registered members. Everyone must register to use the lounge.
Join us for coffee and conversation or group games. Coffee Bar will include free regular or decaf coffee, specialized creamers, and all the fixings.
All special events and field trips require advance registration. Field trips and events are subject to
change, and/or cancellation.

MELT AND POUR SOAP
Friday, February 28, 1 pm to 2 pm
Cost $23 for members
We will be crafting handmade soap. Register by February 21.
MELT AND POUR CANDLE
Friday, March 28, 1 pm to 2 pm
Cost $23 for members
Come make your own candle. Register by March 21.
JEWELRY MAKING
Friday April 25, 1 pm to 2 pm
Cost $23 for members
Enjoy an hour of making your own jewelry. Register by April 18.
Card Making Class - July and September: $4.50/class
Tuesdays 11am to 12pm.
Card Making: Join others, socialize and get your creative juices flowing making greeting cards. Bring your own tools and bling.
Scrapbooking Class - August: $2/class
Tuesdays 11am to 12pm.
Scrapbooking: Bring your scrapbooks and supplies and join others who enjoy this hobby. Colored paper provided.
Coloring Class - Every month: $2
Wednesdays 1:30pm to 3pm
Enjoy this fun time activity. Relax with your peers as you color pages and share ideas. Materials will be provided.
Knit, Crochet and Sewing
Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm.
Free for registered members.
This is not a class taught by an instructor, but it is a fun social group where you can share your tips, tricks or a project you've been working on. All skills welcome. Learn or share new techniques with friends or come and socialize. Any string work is welcomed. Bring your own supplies.
Ceramics Class (OFF-SITE) No Cost, but must bring own supplies.
Mondays 9 am to 1 pm.
Our ceramics class is designed for students to work independently on their choice of ceramic projects. Students are instructed on how to complete projects from green ware (clay not yet fired) into beautifully fired ceramic pieces. Basic supplies are provided but most students choose to purchase their own brushes and cleaning tools. Students must purchase their own green ware or bisque pieces. Staff will furnish their first piece to see if they like the class. Space is limited.

Zumba ® Gold
Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:30am to 12:30pm.
$3 per class or $14 for a 7 class punch card.
Join us for this adaptive dance class where a vivacious party happens in every class. Steps are choreographed to upbeat, happy music. Zumba Gold is where happy people gather to have a good time while getting fit! Bring your water and wear clothes and shoes you can dance in!
Line Dancing - Current students only at this time.
Tuesdays from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.Free for registered members.
Boost confidence & creativity in our country Line Dancing class. Learn the basic steps and choreographed routines in a low impact environment. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can move in. Bring your water!
Chair Exercise with Rose and Rita
Wednesdays 1:30pm to 2:30pm.
Free to registered members.
This class is packed with energy and the positive vibe is contagious. Get fit in this low impact class using bands and resistance. Get out the kinks and build up your strength, designed for seniors of all fitness levels. Work on flexibility, balance and agility; practice small muscle and mind-body routines to lively music.
Tai Chi
- Mondays 10:30am to 11:30am
- Wednesdays 10:30am to 11:30am.
- Friday 10:30am to11:30am
Free for registered members.
Community Tai Chi class is taught movement-by-movement with martial arts application. Tai Chi is designed to help you gain better health and balance.
Morning Chair Exercise
Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30am to 10:30am.
Free for registered members. Space is limited.
Start your day off with movement. Join our group and come participate in our DVD driven, chair exercise class. This class is low impact and full of happy people.
Ping Pong
Ready to serve up some fun? Reserve your spot at the ping pong table on Wednesdays or Thursdays! Whether you’re rallying with a friend or meeting new ones, you’ll enjoy a game that’s not only a blast but also a great workout. Boost your hand-eye coordination, get your body moving, and laugh your way to fitness. Don’t miss the chance to join in—it's game on!

PickleBall
Looking for a fun, social way to get moving? Join us for beginner-friendly pickleball on Mondays or Tuesdays! This relaxed game is perfect for anyone wanting to learn the ropes while having a great time with new friends. It’s all about staying active, sharing laughs, and enjoying the game at your own pace. So grab a paddle and join the fun—pickleball is easier than you think, and more fun than you imagined. Paddles, ball and net provided.

Bingo!
Thursdays 1pm to 2:45pm.
$5 per class for registered members. Register today!
Let’s play Bingo. A game of chance. We will supply the bingo cards. Bring a friend and double the fun. Must bring additional money for card purchase. Six cards maximum per game. (10 cents per card, or 6 cards for 50 cents). We do not have coin change so come prepared with change to play. Light snack provided. Please note all upcoming bingo special events will increase to $15 per participants starting in January 2024.
Brain Boosters
2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am to 10:30 am.
No cost for registered members.
Just like physical exercise, your brain needs exercise too! Challenge your brain with mentally challenging activities such as trivia, memory games, crossword puzzles and other activities to keep your mind sharp. Activities are held in a group setting.
Hand and Foot Card Game
Wednesdays from 10am to 3pm
Free for registered members.
Hand and Foot is a card game in which the objective is to score points by melding clean red and black books. Space is limited.
MEXICAN DOMINOES
Mondays, 11 am to 1 pm.
Free to registered members.
Advance registration required.
The object of the game is for a player to play all the tiles from his or her hand onto one or more chains, or trains, emanating from a central hub or "station". The game's most popular name comes from a special optional train that belongs to all players. However, the game can be played without the Mexican train; such variants are generally called "private trains" or "domino trains".
SCRABBLE
First and third Fridays, 2 pm
Free to registered members.
Scrabble is back! Dictionaries and beginners are welcome.
MOVIE MONDAY - 1pm to 3pm
Every Monday, we will feature a movie for your enjoyment. Come and relax and enjoy some popcorn and watch the movie with your friends! Free, unless otherwise noted. Participants can suggest future movies.

Resource and Referrals - Active Aging Senior Referrals

HICAP Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy is assisting seniors virtually, in person and by phone. Have questions regarding Medicare? They offer free counseling.
You can now make an appointment to see a HICAP Representative.Appointment are available within the Community Center on the Second and Fourth Tuesday of each month from 1 pm to 3 pm, must call HICAP at 916-376-8915 to make an appointment. No walk ins.
Paratransit Vouchers
By Appointment only. Register by calling (916) 617-5320. Yolo Adult Day Health Center (YADHC) has implemented a West Sacramento inclusive program that provides Yolobus Special vouchers to medically designated, disabled seniors who are 60+ and eligible, registered participants for YOLOBUS Special paratransit services. Funded by Area 4 Agency on Aging (A4AA), it is designed to encourage independent community mobility for disabled seniors who, due to a disability, are unable to travel to a boarding and disembarking location on fixed bus routes. For eligible candidates, limited vouchers are available from Active Aging Programs.
Legal Services of Northern California
Need legal advice and help? Legal Services of Northern California will offer limited free service to the senior community. Community Center appointments can be made for the First Tuesday of each month between 9 am to 11 am .

A new State Program is available to offer rental / utility assistance. Short term rental assistance. Must qualify to receive assistance. Call for details.

Need a new smoke and carbon monoxide detector?
If you haven’t picked one up last year (2023) and would like one, please stop by the Community Center. We still have a few left.
You will need to sign a waiver and the installation of the smoke detector is your responsibility.
UTILITY ASSISTANCE HEAP
If you need help paying for your gas/electric/fuel bill, you can apply for the HEAP Program. You can access the application on their website: http://www.nces.org
Help may be obtained by calling the toll free number at 1-800-233-4480. You may leave your full name, mailing address, home phone number, and daytime phone number and an application will be mailed to you within 2-3 business days or make an appointment at the Community Center by calling (916) 617-5320 and we can help you out with the application.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels Yolo County continues to serve West Sacramento seniors’ meals. Come
mingle and dine for free every Wednesday from 11 am to 12 pm at the Community Center. Call
Meals on Wheels at 530-662-7035 to sign up and RSVP. Must call in advance to reserve your
seat. Meals on Wheels comes to your home courtesy of volunteer drivers. Call to see if you
qualify for home delivery.
VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA)
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers provide FREE Income Tax Preparation
Assistance to low-income, elderly, disabled and limited English speaking people. Please
contact Yolo County Children's Alliance at (916) 572-0560 to make an appointment
VIA RIDESHARE
West Sacramento On-Demand makes getting around easy and affordable. Create an
account by downloading the Via Rideshare App on any compatible Smartphone or Tablet or
call Via Customer Support to assist you with your account creation. Once your account is
created, book a ride using the Smartphone App OR by calling the Via Customer Support
Line. Need help downloading and setting up your account using the app? Please call the
Community Development Department at 916-617-5043 and a city representative will be able
to assist you. You can also obtain a discount code for seniors and disabled riders. Standard
fares are just $3.50 one-way, or $1.75 for seniors and disabled riders.

Eyes of Hope
VSP® Eyes of Hope® gift certificates provide adults and children in need with access to eye care and new
glasses at no cost through a VSP network doctor in their community.
Gift certificates are available to those who qualify. Please call 916-617-5320 for more information.
Who’s Eligible:
Individuals of any age.
Family income at or under 200% of Federal Poverty Level guidelines.
No coverage through a private insurer or government program for services covered by the gift certificate.
Haven't received care through a VSP program during the last 12 months.
Books by Mail is a free service from the Yolo County Library that brings library materials to you
through the mail on a long-term or short-term basis. It is a free service available to any resident who
has a disability, illness or lack of transportation that prevents access to a Yolo County Library
branch.

EAT SMART, LIVE STRONG
Mondays, April 7, 14, 21, 28, 11 am to 12 pm
Brought to you by Agency on Aging Area 4's CalFresh Healthy Living series.
The Eat Smart, Live Strong is a four-series workshop designed to encourage
older adults to increase their fruit and vegetable consumption to at least 3 ½
cups (1 ½ cup fruit and 2 cups vegetables) and to participate in at least 30
minutes of physical activity each day.
